FAQ

I am a Freshman/Sophomore. I haven’t taken and I am not currently enrolled in a 3000-level major course. Can I still join?
Yes. You have the opportunity of joining Beta Alpha Psi as an Associate instead of a Candidate. You will receive all the benefits of the organization including: weekly professional meetings, Career Mixer, social events, and volunteer events. The only difference is that you are unable to be initiated as a Member at the end of the semester. You will need to apply again as a Candidate when you have taken or are currently enrolled in a 3000-level major course.

I just enrolled in a 3000-level major course this semester, so I don’t really have a major GPA. Can I still join?
Yes. You can still join as a Candidate. At the end of the semester, we will inquire about your grade in the class(es) to ensure that you have a 3.0 major GPA to become a member. Also, you don’t have to formally declare your major to join BAP!

Where do the $85 Candidate dues go?
Beta Alpha Psi is an internationally recognized organization. We pay dues to the National chapter for each student who enters the organization. The dues also go towards social events, professional events, and other benefits you will receive when you join Beta Alpha Psi.

600 points sounds like a lot of work. What does it actually mean?
It may seem like an intimidating number, but it’s really not hard at all. If you meet the minimum requirements of attending events, you will already accumulate 600 points. If you attended all the events available, you could potentially have over 1200 points easily. With some planning early on, your schedule can accommodate exams, travelling, and your other commitments. The breakdown of the point requirements can be found here.

I was a member years ago or at another University. Do I have to start all over?
No. Once a member, always a member for life. We understand that after you become a member, your schedule changes, or you have that internship you have been working so hard to get, so you are not active in the next semester. You can always come back as an active member as long as you are enrolled at UH.

I didn’t make member last time. Can I try again?
Yes, and we encourage you to do so. As long as you meet the requirements to join Beta Alpha Psi, you are welcome to apply.
